40 years of a man-eating plant — and the world still isn’t satiated. That’s right, the 1986 film The Little Shop of Horrors is celebrating its quadragennial (a fun term for four decades) by hitting the road starting next week to screen in select cities through the New Year, live with Ellen Greene!
This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to “Suddenly Sey” one of the production’s main players in the flesh.
Cast as the original “Audrey” in 1982’s rock musical by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken and the same role for the film adaptation, Greene’s rare appearance as host for the 40th Anniversary Tour is a true treat for longtime fans.
Fun fact: Little Shop‘s roots weren’t always musical in nature. It’s true! Audrey II’s blood thirst sprouted from a low-budget 1960 comedy horror flick by the same name… although it was Frank Oz’s adaptation of the early 80s musical that grew the (extra) carnivorous plant’s fame to what it is today.
