5FDP, Marilyn Manson & Slaughter to Prevail bring anarchy to Anaheim
Anaheim’s Honda Center was roaring Friday, September 6th with metalheads stoked to catch Slaughter to Prevail, Marilyn Manson, and Five Finger Death Punch. Home of The Mighty Ducks was a nice, cool air-conditioned venue for all the rockers dressed in black to escape the Los Angeles heat and get rowdy in a mosh pit… or two.
Slaughter to Prevail — a Russian band — has got a fast-growing fan base. Seeing them live you will understand why that is.
Lead singer Alex “The Terrible” is one to get the crowd hooked, telling them to move around from mosh pits to the wall of death. I got the chance to catch their set at Sick New World in Las Vegas earlier this year and hearing Alex scream over that large of a crowd without a microphone was gnarly! Coming into this show, I was excited to get to see them again, knowing how great they perform live. Slaughter to Prevail pumped out their set including fan-favorites “Demolisher” and “Baba Yaga”. With the band members very mobile on what stage area was left of for them, they were really into putting on a energetic, loud performance.
Marilyn Manson — the highly controversial “Antichrist Superstar”– put on one hell of a show next, playing all his hits over the last three decades. “The Dope Show” singer was fairly tame for the night, compared to his previous stage antics in the past, but his sound and visual effects were great. Manson even shared new music from his upcoming album. Finishing the set with the big hit “The Beautiful People” was what the crowd was waiting for. Attendees at Honda Center seemed to favor Marilyn Manson, as when his set was over, I noticed a large amount of people leaving. Sucks for them.
Headliners Five Finger Death Punch played through their catalog of hits, with an electrifying light and laser show.
I recall seeing this band back in 2008 at Mayhem Festival when they were just getting recognition for their first hit “The Bleeding” (what happened to be the closing song… of course, saving the best for last). ”Wrong Side of Heaven”, “Jekyll and Hyde”, and “Salvation” were among the setlist. Lead singer Ivan Moody noticed a young fan in the crowd and offered her (and her family) to come up to side-stage for a better view. Many other fans in the crowd got little souvenirs, too, from the many guitar picks band members threw out all night to some false five-dollar bills with the band’s logo on them. Some lucky fans even left with some of Ivan’s personal jewelry that he threw out to the crowd!
