Foster The People pumps up St. Louis with Goth Babe

Foster The People brought the Good Mourning Sunshine Tour to a sold-out Saint Louis Music Park with Goth Babe opening the night. Goth Babe got things started with a laidback set, featuring songs like “Sun Comes Up”, “I Wanna Help Your Mind”, and “Weekend Friend”. For those who aren’t familiar, Goth Babe is an indie rock solo project of singer-songwriter Griff Washburn, with songs leaning more toward chillwave than its edgy name suggests.
It was a dreamy way to start the show before the headliners “Pumped” things up.
Foster The People opened with the classic “Helena Beat”, spending a good part of the night going back through Torches. “Houdini”, “Call It What You Want”, “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)”, and “Pumped Up Kicks” were all in the set, so anyone coming for the older material had plenty of it.
The band also worked in several songs from 2024’s Paradise State of Mind, the album that moved the band further into disco, funk, and psychedelic pop sounds. Songs like “Chasing Low Vibrations”, “Lost in Space”, and “A Diamond to Be Born” gave the middle of the band’s set a noticeably different feel from their early-2010s material.
Mark Foster still carries most of the show, moving between vocals, guitar, and keys. The older songs in particular still hold up well live and the crowd seemed to know just about every word when the band went back to Torches. The set even reached beyond the biggest singles, with songs like “Goats in Trees”, “Pseudologia Fantastica”, and “Lotus Eater”! Finishing with “Sit Next to Me” and (of course) “Pumped Up Kicks”, Foster The People prompted an epic sing-along to end the night in style.
