I Prevail & Halestorm deliver show of the summer to St. Louis

If you’re looking to add some excitement to your end-of-summer and want to do so through a heavy rock show, one with a lot of bands playing in an outdoor ampitheatre… and the bands are actually good? Well then, let me tell you about a show I went to the other night.

I Prevail and Halestorm are co-headlining a massive two month-long summer tour, bringing with them Hollywood Undead and Fit for a King for support — a heavy-hitter lineup, for sure! The weather finally took a break from the heatwave on August 7th, providing some cloud coverage all night that made the St. Louis stop that much more worth it for the hordes of fans who made their way out to the Hollywood Casino Ampitheatre!

Fit for a King was brand new to me, but I was left thoroughly impressed with their performance.

They played to a pretty full house, even with the opening slot. With plenty of epic jumps around stage from the bassist and solid vocal work all around, the band definitely succeeded in their goal of warming up the audience. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fit for a King was added to quite a few playlists for the ride home.

Hollywood Undead had been off my radar for a few years now but, honestly, it was good to see them still touring. The LA-based party boys transported everyone back to the early 2000s, aka, my high school days and, man, did they hit on all of the nostalgia with songs like “Everywhere I Go”, “Hear Me Now”, and “Undead” (all catering to their older fans, but also showing love to newbies with their recent single “Chaos”).

And what is there to say about Lzzy Hale other than she is a rock goddess living amongst simple rockstars?

Halestorm opened their set with the supremely talented Lzzy Hale showcasing her powerhouse vocals. Once the band joined in, though, all hell broke loose in the best way imaginable. Halestorm has worked hard at making a name for themselves in the annals of hard rock, giving shout-outs to local radio stations The Point and KSHE for helping them along the way by inviting them to play Pointfest among other shows in St. Louis.

Of course, all this momentum was capped off with I Prevail, who closed the evening with a wrecking ball of a show. After I Prevail played a few songs, they admitted to something they rarely do… which was playing to the audience. They know their fans and they know what they want to hear. So, by using a dual-level stage with plenty of video walls, they featured visuals from some of the lyric videos released with the Trauma and True Power albums, as well as hitting fans with the song that started it all, the cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.”

Vocalist Brian Burkheiser then spoke on his mental health and recent surgery, both events used heavily as inspiration for multiple songs across I Prevail’s latest albums. This particular venue isn’t really conducive for a moshpit, but I Prevail is well toured and knows how to amp up a crowd and a few briefly lived moshpits appeared — both in the pit, as well as out on the lawn! It was a fun show and if you want to catch it, make sure to grab your tickets soon before I Prevail heads to Australia. In the meantime, Fit for a King’s new single “TECHNIUM”, Hollywood Undead’s latest album Hotel Kalifornia, along with Halestorm and I Prevail’s new single “can you see me in the dark?” are all available everywhere now.
