Noah Cyrus & Braison Cyrus captivate Nashville, family-style

Every once in a while, I find myself attending a show I otherwise would never considered going to, had it not been for the suggestion of someone close to me. A few weeks ago, I was hanging out with some of my music friends when a song came across our Spotify queue; it turned out to be a Noah Cyrus song — “I Got So High That I Saw Jesus”. I immediately wondered how I could’ve gone so long without hearing this amazing track. Based solely on that one single, I decided I wanted to cover the upcoming Noah Cyrus show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
Joining her on the lineup would be her brother, Braison Cyrus.
Due to a work conflict, I was unable to see the very first act of the night, but I walked in just as Braison was beginning his set. I remember thinking to myself, “damn, the Cyrus family is extremely talented”. In my opinion, he had kind of a Lord Huron-type vibe with touches of Americana, soul, and rock all mixed together. His set didn’t seem very long, but what he performed was enough to make me immediately start following him on Spotify and social media. Turns out, he’s a very accomplished songwriter, having written songs for his sisters along with other artists.
Later in the evening, he joined Noah onstage for a few songs; I loved the emotional moments between them. You could see how close they were as Noah talked about their lives and how Braison Cyrus used to drive her to school, how he introduced her to so much music that would later influence her style.
It felt like a personal glimpse into a very close-knit family.
Within just a few minutes of Noah Cyrus’ set, I was hooked. She’s extremely talented and all of her songs were incredibly catchy. I didn’t know many of them by name, since I’m relatively new to her music universe, but I was captivated from start to finish. At one point, Noah talked about receiving pushback from her record label regarding what qualifies as a “commercial pop song” and what doesn’t. I loved how she spoke about sticking to her roots and doing what she truly wants to do as a musician. It was refreshing to know that even someone from such a prestigious music family still faces challenges in the industry.
During the show, Noah brought out Stephen Wilson Jr., an incredibly talented country musician, to sing a song with her. In my opinion, it was one of the highlights of the entire evening. I didn’t know who he was before he came out, but I immediately fell in love with his voice.
I highly recommend giving Noah Cyrus a listen if you aren’t familiar with her catalog. She’s one of the most talented young musicians in the industry right now and I love that she’s confidently doing her own thing.
