Sextile crushes intimate set at The Blue Room in Nashville

There are a few music venues in the city of Nashville where it seems as if magic consistently happens. One such place is The Blue Room, a 300-person-capacity venue owned by Jack White. The Blue Room has a tendency to put on some of the coolest shows, often feeling like an exclusive party because of the limited number of tickets available. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with going to bigger shows, but it’s the intimate feel of seeing some of the coolest bands and music right now that makes The Blue Room one of the most unique and special places to me in Nashville.
This Friday night will feature two excellent bands — Automatic and Sextile.
Automatic, from Los Angeles, began the evening of music. Fresh off the release of their third studio album Is It Now?, the trio of Izzy, Halle, and Lola rocked the crowd much harder than I anticipated. I’ve spent some time deep-diving into their music and, while most of their songs have a post-punk vibe, it definitely felt like a psychedelic dance party. It was the kind of show where even people who think they’re too cool to dance end up dancing. I ended up buying one of their shirts after the show, because I enjoyed them so much. I highly encourage anyone who enjoys dancing, post-punk, and smooth, almost nonchalant vocal styles to check out this band.
Sextile is one of those bands that use so many EDM influences that they always bring a party. I remember seeing Sextile open for Molchat Doma a few months ago; the show was so good that as soon as I heard they were coming back to Nashville, I just had to go. The sound inside a space like The Blue Room felt as if I was completely immersed in the bass of this band. The entire audience was jumping around and going absolutely crazy throughout their set. They played some of my favorite songs, including “Free Eyes”, “Push-Ups”, and “Penny Rose”. In my opinion, Sextile is one of the coolest and most unique in the EDM-rock genre.
Attending a show like this, as a rabid music fan, makes me feel special on a level that only few people understand. It’s almost like being invited into a secret society of killer music shows. I love everything that Jack White and The Blue Room are doing, and I encourage anyone coming to or living in Nashville to attend a show at this sensational music venue.
