Unwrapping a night with Here Come The Mummies in Michigan

The Mummfest Tour put together three bands across three genres… I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, yet it managed to make sense in the end! The first band onstage at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit stop was Platinum Moon. This group of five is young, but definitely have old souls with overt influences of classic rock, punk, and blues in their music. The long guitar solos that Anton Klettner shredded, the power in AvA Anduze’s voice as she sang… even Toby Dorfman’s slapping the bass managed to bring me thrills. AvA brought sass to the stage while the boys caught my attention with their intensity; it was obvious how talented these players all are.
When AvA said they were going to get the crowd warmed up, she meant it.
I never thought I would witness a mad scientist onstage, but I did next. Lachy Doley is the definition of a mad scientist, if one was given a keyboard and a drummer to do his bidding. Doley takes R&B and just runs with it, starting the night with a drink and telling the crowd he wasn’t sure where the set would go. The music was fun to hear and you can feel the players’ passion as they performed. They even shared the fun with Dorfman, who was brought back onstage to add depth.
The last band of the night was Here Come The Mummies — a group of musicians, rumored to be super famous. Do we know who these guys are? No, as they perform in mummy costumes. They come out in the back of the room, marching in like there was impending doom seeping throughout the building. Onstage, with smoke swirling around them like there was magic in the air, the band got the crowd dance immediately, complete with their own version of the cha-cha slide. The band members just get silly onstage; even a giant eyeball hat doing push-ups happened at one point!
The night started off with nostalgia, turned into a science lab, and ended with a complete party.
Now that’s a dead’s man party if there ever was one. There is no way that anyone was bored that entire night. Cheers till next time the mummies return!
