Five Finger Death Punch is back again with the newest single from their upcoming album, Afterlife! That’s right folks, be prepared for Ivan Moody to grace your ears once again with his soulful, yet heavy voice. The newest single is called “Times Like These” and comes right after the hard-hitting single “Welcome To The Circus”. This newest single is more melodic in tone, so for those of you that like the more mellow side of the band, this song is for you.
With nice acoustics to it, “Times Like These” is balanced by its deep lyrics.
I love the way this song starts off: “It’s nights like this, under a harvest moon // It came too fast and it’s gone too soon // A wilted rose and a frozen tomb // A memory for the wind anyway…” These lyrics prove to me that the band’s writing has gotten stronger than any other previous albums and I’m liking what this album is building up to be already. I love when Five Finger Death Punch does ballads; it shows the band is not afraid to try new things and every ballad makes me feel something different. FFDP can go from heavy to soft, while still keeping you interested. I’m loving what I’m hearing: not only is the band evolving, they keep on surprising.
Upon first listen of this song, I had a huge smile on my face. It has a sense of country music to it, while also feeling like a rock song at the same time. Blending the genres only widens the fanbase, so smart move. I can’t wait to hear the rest of Afterlife, as album number nine is shaping up to be a good one and just might become the band’s best to date. And, believe me when I say, this new song will be personally on repeat for me until the full album comes out on August 19th. Five Finger Death Punch, thank you for the new music. Get excited everyone, because Five Finger Death Punch is coming back better, bigger and stronger than ever before.
