How dark & dreary! Cruel World returns to Pasadena May of 2025

Goldenvoice is going gothic yet again, with another installment announced for what has come to be the annual mecca of the morose and misunderstood — Cruel World Festival. Now in its fourth year, Cruel World in Pasadena, California has welcomed post-punk and New Wave legends to the stage such as Iggy Pop, Siouxsie Sioux, Morrissey, Bauhaus, and Echo and the Bunnymen, alongside more pop-friendly 80s greats like Duran Duran, Billy Idol, and Blondie.

But this somber Saturday in May is only getting better with age, considering what’s on the slab for 2025.

As of October 21st, a true Halloween treat, Goldenvoice revealed what its had hidden up its corset all summer for Cruel World 2025. Embracing a more modern approach (as in from 90s till now), the fest lists the likes of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Garbage, She Wants Revenge, Chelsea Wolfe, She Past Away, and more. Yet, that’s not to say there won’t be genre founders present! The Go-Go’s, the Buzzcocks, and The Cult will be there, as will DEVO, OMD, and New Order headlining it all. It’s truly a generational blend of doom and gloom that any black-clad, apathetic soul can’t miss.

Other notable newer names are Mareux, Chelsea Wolfe, Depresión Sonora, and Provoker. The hip hop group of Stereo Mc’s are even thrown in for good measure! From the day’s openers of Wiseteria and Social Order to the direct support of ‘Til Tuesday and Madness, Cruel World 4 shall be another cynical celebration of societal evils and self-deprecation. Woe is the word.

Being Halloween eve, you’re probably not planning spring of next year already… but maybe you should. Tickets for Cruel World 2025 are already available on the festival’s website, as well as the links below. Don’t get left out of this gathering of the ghouls next May and buy your passes now before it’s too late!
