Ice Nine Kills returns with riotous “Rainy Day” single

Ice Nine Kills run towards the heaviness with their new single “Rainy Day”, taken from their forthcoming album The Sliver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood. This song is the next slice of the pie and it sure is sweet! It’s about one of my favorite horror movies, Resident Evil: a movie about a virus that gets out of a lab and turns people into flesh-eating zombies. The song starts out with heavy guitars, which are present throughout this already on-repeat song.

The opening lyrics are some of the best I’ve heard from Ice Nine Kills in a long time.

“Crawl through the holes in the evidence, where evil has taken up residence // No faith in what red and white will say // Then, save the truth for a rainy day.”

This song is accompanied by a really, really great music video, featuring a cameo from Ash Costello (of New Year’s Day). This is where I think Ice Nine Kills nails it: all Ice Nine Kills music videos from the original Silver Scream album — including this one — are like watching a great horror movie play out before your eyes. In the official video for “Rainy Day”, band frontman Spencer Charnas plays a cop fighting off the undead and it’s beautiful. I can’t think of any other band doing what Ice Nine Kills does with this theatrical concept. This band embraces being a horror band and I love what they are doing. “Rainy Day” makes me want to go back and watch all of the Resident Evil movies and play the original video games!

I can’t wait to see what this band has up their sleeves for the next single, “Funeral Derangements”, coming out October 8th, with its subsequent video out October 9th. Then, the moment metalheads have all been waiting for, the full Silver Scream 2 album comes out the following week on October 14th. Want to see the band in action? Ice Nine Kills is playing Friday at Daytona Beach’s Welcome to Rockville festival in November!

I can’t wait to hopefully hear this live; I’ve seen Ice Nine Kills twice now and they were amazing both times! I would love to sit down with Spencer Charnas and talk about the upcoming album sometime, so, Mr. Charnas, if you’re reading this, hit me up! “Rainy Day”, along with all the latest singles off the upcoming album, is available on all digital outlets now and make sure to blast the album when it releases October 14th!
