Phoenix hip hop/alt rock foursome Katastro returns with an uptempo breakup anthem, “The Way I Feel”, announcing a date for their much-anticipated Sucker album, to boot! Sucker marks the sixth full-length album for the band, teased back in fall 2020 with lead single “Way Too High” and sophomore single “100 Rips” in March.
Clearly, this band still likes to party, even with a matured sound.
The latest single stands as the introductory song on the album, proffering a personal anecdote to embracing change between its upbeat measures. “‘The Way I Feel’ is probably the most personal song for me on the album,” explains vocalist Andy Chaves. “I was going through a shitty breakup and remember not wanting to be in the studio at all that day. The keys that come in the beginning just make you feel good. I remember driving home after that session and I was in the one of the best moods I had been in for a while. I’m hoping this track makes anyone going through the same shit feel the same way I did on that drive home.”
And, we all can use a boost after the extremely unsettling year of 2020. “After a devastating year for the music industry, we were left pretty scattered,” explains bassist Ryan Weddle. “Months into the lockdown, we found ourselves with more time off than we had in years and decided to take over a local recording studio. With our own spot, our only goal was to write the best songs we could and really embrace our new opportunity to spend time at home without obligations or deadlines. It really began to feel like it did when we started the band.”
Getting back to a band’s roots whilst moving forward in sound and structure… now, that’s the sweet spot.
With light keys and a deep bass, Katastro proclaims “I don’t care what you say” for nothing is going to bother me now. Recovering from a relationship lost is never fun, especially with your ex constantly blowing up your phone. “Where did all the love go?” Instead of dwelling, let’s just blame it on the alcohol and bounce. For fans of Shwayze and Dirty Heads, this carefree anthem will light you up for summertime fun, no matter your relationship status.
“The Way I Feel” is now available on all digital outlets as of today, as well as the ability to pre-order or pre-save the new album due out Friday, July 16th via Controlled Substance Sound Labs.
