Ohio’s Inkcarceration ups the music, tattoos & haunts for 2022

The 4th Annual Music and Tattoo Festival, Inkcarceration, returns to Mansfield, Ohio on July 15th through 17th! This three-day fest takes place on the grounds of the infamous Ohio State Reformatory. I’m obsessed with Ghost Adventures and everything else spooky, so the Ohio State Reformatory is a place that I’ve been wanting to visit for a really long time now; it has this sort of charm to it that makes me drawn to it more than other places. Having undergone a massive revamp of the festival grounds in 2021 and bringing in a record-breaking crowd of 75,000 people, Inkcarceration 2022 is aiming for this to be the biggest edition of the festival yet!

This year’s lineup includes headliners Korn, Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin, with support from Papa Roach, Lamb of God, Evanescence, Seether, Falling in Reverse, Three Days Grace, I Prevail, Black Label Society, Theory of a Deadman, Black Veil Brides, Jelly Roll, Nothing More, Sleeping With Sirens, Avatar, Spiritbox, 10 Years, John 5, Ayron Jones, From Ashes to New, Butcher Babies and more!

When the full lineup got announced in February, there was still one more major artist to be announced.

Just this week, they finally announced that artist is…. Daughtry!! I’m super excited about that addition, because I love their music and haven’t been able to see them yet! I’m not the only one excited, too. David Draiman of Disturbed said, “We are thrilled to be playing on the historic and hallowed grounds of the Ohio State Reformatory for our first Inkcarceration. Ohio, Are You Ready?” Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix adds, “We are excited to be part of Inkcarceration this year. Epic lineup, can’t wait to see all you Inkmates!”

In addition to the music, Inkcarceration will be holding a huge tattoo convention on the grounds that will feature over 30 tattoo shops and artists. You can book a tattoo with an artist now to secure your spot, but if you’re more spontaneous, most will be accepting walk-ups, too. There will also be nightly tattoo competitions that will be judged by musician and Big Brother alum Jenncity, actor Robert LaSardo and tattooist Caleb Neff!

Not only that, but I’m super excited that this festival is further offering self-guided tours to the Reformatory! I’ve always been so intrigued with this place, because of its history and the stories I’ve heard. Architect Levi T. Scofield used a cathedral style when designing the Reformatory: the architecture is gothic in nature, invoking the feeling of castles. Conditions in the prison, mixed with its design, earned the Reformatory its nickname, “Dracula’s Castle”. The East Cell Block is one of the largest free-standing groups of cells in the world and is said to hold the most paranormal activity in the Reformatory. One of the more well-known stories is of Cell 13: it was in that cell an inmate, James Lockhart, covered himself in turpentine, set himself on fire and consequently died. It’s said that he still haunts that cell — his spirit considered to be the most violent in the prison. It would be interesting to check out if his ghostly presence is lingering! Not only is the Ohio State Reformatory haunted, it’s also been used as a filming location in multiple Hollywood films, including The Shawshank Redemption and Air Force One.

Passes are still available although there is a limited quantity left! Weekend and Single-Day GA passes are still available, but only for Friday and Saturday VIP. As a VIP, you’ll get a commemorative VIP laminate and wristband, dedicated entrance lanes into the festival and entrance into the VIP area, which includes an elevated and shaded viewing deck, an air-conditioned lounge with comfortable furniture, as well as audio and video streams of the main stages. Other VIP amenities include a dedicated merchandise stand, dedicated VIP locker rental with charging capabilities, air-conditioned and flushable restrooms, and premium food and drink offerings. Unfortunately, all camping options are already sold-out, but you can still join the waitlist! This festival is a blend of all my favorite things — music, tattoos and haunts! Get ready to have a killer time at Inkcarceration 2022!!
