After hitting its first year out of the park in 2016, Okeechobee Festival and its down-to-earth vibrations grew in 2017 and 2018, before coming to a grinding halt for March 2019… apparently it was due to something concerning large, yet amiable corporate leader changes. Being most known for its EDC Festival in Las Vegas, Insomniac is no noob to the industry. Pumping out exquisite raves around the world, Insomniac is sure to add its pizzazz to Okeechobee’s exquisite established nature. The festival stretches a whopping 800 acres — over lush lands, lakes and beach — while still maintaining an intimate vibe for all who attend. How, you ask? Albeit hosting three main stages, Okeechobee splits its areas to encompass all forms of entertainment. Consider the Jive Joint: an erected side stage for Vaudevillian displays, where patrons can watch host Super Tall Paul and his Jive Joint comedians impress the masses with improv workshops, live music and more. The Lost in Tea Lounge is a maze of nooks and crannies tucked into the jungle, for attendees to stumble upon an impromptu seance, live blackjack table, on-demand poetry and beyond. Speaking of in the jungle, new for 2020 is the Jungle 51 Area: a dusk till dawn rager with house and techno deejays spinning around the clock. Want to just enjoy the main music acts? You don’t have to go far to find more than music, with street performers sneaking and peaking around you as you walk.
At this point, you’re probably wondering how this differs from a typical rave… especially if that isn’t your typical scene. Okeechobee does offer EDM to those in favor, yet further signs the biggest names in other genres to tag along. Headlining Thursday and Friday are Rüfüs Du Sol and Bassnectar; headlining the latter two nights are Vampire Weekend and Mumford & Sons. Diversity at its finest. Other industry giants enlisted for 2020 are Tipper, Alison Wonderland, ARIZONA, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Kaskade, Sublime With Rome and more. In just that sample, you have EDM, alternative, folk, house and reggae. Simply delectable.
