The Almost at Pittsburgh’s Rex Theater
The Almost returned to the stage full force on January 11th, 2020 at The Rex Theater in Pittsburgh, giving an unforgettable performance. As the tour made its way through the eastern part of the country, many members of the group became sick with the flu, causing a cancellation in Washington D.C. Their first day back from a hefty flu going around, the group surprisingly showed no signs of illness onstage.
Opener Rowdy started the night off in a positive light, sharing stories of what motivates his solo country career, in addition to playing bass for The Almost. Riley Anglen performed his country set acoustic, including an acoustic version of his new single, “Hang It On” — all in the name of his family waiting for him at home, giving a special touch to the performance. Then came Ghost Atlas, the brainchild of post metalcore band Erra’s own Jesse Cash. The group slayed the stage, giving the audience the alternative rock vibe they came to see. The best way to describe this incredible sound was major Anthony Green vibes (think Saosin meets Circa Survive). You NEED to check these guys out, the sound is incredible.
Fan favorites “Dirty and Left Out” and “Amazing Because It Is” had the entire room singing.
Up next came indie rock’s longtime favorite All Get Out, playing hits such as “Room To Talk” and “Rose”. Nathan Hussey (vocals/guitar), Kyle Samuel (guitar) and Dom Nastasi (drums) brought their heavy side to “Value”, paying homage to their indie melodies in a variety of tunes.
Lastly, The Almost. The Almost’s brainchild Aaron Gillespie not only performs as the frontman, but also writes and produces every aspect of The Almost’s work. What a busy man… considering as he also drums and sings for metalcore band Underoath. As the Fear Caller Tour promised, the crowd received all of the hit 2007 album Southern Weather, in addition to new hits scattered throughout the setlist from new album Fear Caller. This approach to giving fans the old favorites with new pieces of art was everything I didn’t know that I needed, but certainly did.
When The Almost took the stage, the crowd went crazy, starting off with mega hit “Southern Weather”. New songs, like “Chokehold” and “I Want It Real”, hit the audience just as hard as the old favorites, like “Drive There Now” and breakout hit “Say This Sooner”. To complete the incredible evening, Gillespie opted to skip the whole ‘go backstage, wait and return’ for two solo acoustic pieces. Fan favorites “Dirty and Left Out” and “Amazing Because It Is” had the entire room singing. This tour was certainly not one to miss! Check out The Almost on the Fear Caller Tour as it makes its way around the United States through the month of January!
