Weezer takes Sacramento on a galactic ‘Voyage to the Blue Planet’

Weezer took fans on a thrilling journey through time and space on Tuesday, October 8th, at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA. The crowd excitedly counted down the timer—“9, 8, 7…!”—as anticipation built. Then, in a truly spectacular fashion, the band appeared on stage, arriving in a Weezer-branded spacecraft, instruments in hand.

Thus began the Voyage to the Blue Planet!

The stage was adorned with asteroids, and a massive screen projected cosmic imagery that perfectly set the tone for the night. An opening video provided the storyline of the intergalactic voyage, setting the stage for an evening that was both zany and mind-blowing. Lead vocalist Rivers Cuomo, guitarist Brian Bell, bassist Scott Shriner, and drummer Patrick Wilson were in peak form as they delivered a setlist that kept the energy high throughout the night, including the entirety of their iconic Blue Album.

The show kicked off with a collection of Weezer hits like “Hash Pipe,” “Pork and Beans,” “Beverly Hills,” and “Island in the Sun.” Soon after, the band “crash-landed” in the Pinkerton Asteroid Belt, leading to a thrilling selection of songs from their 1996 album Pinkerton, including “Getchoo,” “Why Bother?,” “Pink Triangle,” “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly,” and “Across the Sea.”

The main event took fans to the Blue Planet, where the band found it dying and in need of revival. To bring it back to life, Weezer played all the tracks from their 1994 debut album, Weezer. That was rereleased in 2004 as a deluxe edition and renamed Blue Album. The crowd sang along to highlights like “Buddy Holly,” “The Sweater Song,” “Say It Ain’t So,” “Holiday,” and the epic closer, “Only in Dreams.”

To cap off the evening, Cuomo declared, “That’s one small step for Weezer, one giant leap for Weezer-kind!”

Opening acts Dinosaur Jr. and The Flaming Lips added to the night’s wild atmosphere, each delivering memorable sets that perfectly complemented Weezer’s interstellar theme. If you get the chance, I highly recommend catching a show on this tour—it’s a crazy, fun-filled experience you won’t want to miss!
