Country fans were back in action once again at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles for yet another topnotch show. On day nine of the fair, attendees got the final country show of the summer, welcoming back the one and only Keith Urban.
This town knows how throw down… and throw more than a few drinks back.
Urban’s High and Alive World Tour brought with a few friends with Karley Scott Collins, Alana Springsteen, and Chase Matthew on the bill for this stop. With a few extra names on the lineup, doors opened a little sooner than usual and, with the weather being so much cooler than previous years, fans had no problem showing up early for a long night full of music.
Karley Scott Collins was first up with a great sound that some in Paso Robles got a taste of last year when she came to town to play at Barrel House Brew Co. The “Cowboy Shit” singer is out on the road promoting her upcoming album Flight Risk, due out shortly in September.
Second up was “Zero Trucks” powerhouse singer Alana Springsteen; I was glad to see she was added to the lineup.
Alana and her band had a fun entertaining set that involved a lot of crowd interaction from the pit. Her song “Ghost in My Guitar” (featuring Chris Stapleton) is becoming quite a big hit; she’s surely getting a lot of recognition, so if you get the chance to see her live before she becomes a bigger star, I would definitely recommend it!
Chase Matthew was third to perform, with his fast-paced party sound — perfect to get the crowd rocking before Keith Urban took over the stage! The newcomer had no problem staying on his side of the “County Line”, as he’s hit the road trying to get his name out there in the game. At this point in the night, the venue was packed and ready for the return of Keith Urban.
With fans amped, Keith Urban arrived to the stage doing his new song “Straight Line”, followed by his earlier hit “Where the Blacktop Ends” before he hit us with “Long Hot Summer”. Seeing and hearing Keith Urban shredding on guitar was just phenomenal and his passion to connect with the fans is just amazing.
Early in the show, Urban brought a fan up onstage to take a selfie with him, because she had traveled from Nashville just to see this show for her birthday. As the music kept rolling on with fan-favorites “John Cougar, John Deer, John 3:16”, “Cop Car”, “Days Go By”, and “Kiss a Girl/Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me”, one of the guitar players set her instrument down to pick up a microphone and cover Carrie Underwood‘s part in “The Fighter”! She delivered such a beautiful version of the song and quickly won over the crowd.
After a few more songs, Keith disappeared from the stage to arrive a moment later in the crowd behind the floor seats, giving the people in the back bleachers a front row seat experience while he played a few acoustics songs — one being a cover of Chappell Roan‘s mega-hit “Pink Pony Club” before one of my favorites, “You’ll Think of Me”. Returning to the stage for “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and a few more songs, Keith Urban ultimately ended his show showering his crowd in confetti. The High and Alive Tour has got many stops left on the run, so be sure to check out a show near you if you can!
