Andy Grammer & wife Aijia dazzle at The Ford in Los Angeles

It was a beautiful evening on Sunday, August 10th in the heart of Hollywood at The John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, familiarly known as The Ford. This is currently my third time attending this beautiful, intimate outdoor venue and I just can’t get enough of it. It gives you an up-close-and-personal experience with the artist; you feel very connected with them during their shows.

Not only is every seat great in the house, but it has an old medieval castle vibe to it, along with a mountaintop scenic background view behind the stage. This night’s event was a very special one, because it features a ton of family and friends that came out to support Aijia and Andy Grammer — the main act of the night.

As the lights dimmed, the audience settled in their seats to Aijia — aka, Andy Grammer’s wife.

Aijia hit the stage singing “Movin’ Up” from her debut EP release Me Time that was released this year back on March 26th. She then followed up with a song “Forever Man”, a song about being with someone for a long time and knowing that’s your forever person — your ride-or-die partner.

Towards the end of Aijia’s set, she sat on a stool and got intimate with “When It Counts”, a song about going through a hard time and, luckily, being able to rely on close friends that have your back, no matter what the situation is. Following that, Aijia went into a cover of Natasha Bedingfield‘s “Unwritten”. Everyone immediately got out of their seats and started belting out the lyrics. Last, Aijia explained the final song “Me Time” was written about unapologetic, over-the-top, super indulgent self care as a reminder to yourself that you’re doing alright.

As the intermission came to an end, right at 8:20pm, Andy Grammer came to the stage with “Monster” — the title track from his latest album released last year. He said the album was inspired by anger and a mandolin, as it turns out, stemming from “vulnerable, sensitive, and personal topics”. Other songs from that album performed were “Magic”, “I Do”, “Blind Spots”, and “Bigger Man”.

Into the set, Andy’s eyes lit up and pointed out a young fan that had a sign that said “Let’s Boogie Woogie”, which was his Masked Singer character on the show. After that fun moment, before “Saved My Life”, Grammer told the crowd that the song was inspired by having that ‘special person’ in your life and if they’re here right now, he asked for everyone to turn to them and give them a big hug.

A little later in the set, Andy Grammer brought out his daughters and wife to sing a part of “Lease On Life” with him onstage.

It was a very cute moment. As the night went on, Aijia returned to the stage again to help Andy sing “Grey”, a song about being together for a long time — even till their “old and gray”. A medley of covers came next, including OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars”, Chappell Roan‘s “Pink Pony Club”, Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer”, and Faith No More’s “Falling To Pieces”, getting everyone up out of their seats cheering and screaming. Towards the end, popular hit songs like “Fresh Eyes”, “Keep Your Head Up”, “Back Home”, and “Without You” ended the show, leading to Andy saying his goodbyes and leaving the stage. Naturally, the crowd wanted more and started chanting his name, prompting Andy to reappear for one more to finish the show, “Don’t Give Up On Me”. What a wonderful night full of family and fun!
