Being at SoCal Hoedown 2021

For five previous years, SoCal Hoedown has had fantastic lineup, with some of the best punk musicians gathering together to perform for one epic day! Hamapple, a punk band from southern California, kicked off the long-awaited 2021 SoCal Hoedown return. To get the fans psyched up, they started the event at noon with some upbeat, hardcore music! Then, from Huntington Beach, Lifeline performed some acoustic beachy-style punk. Fishbone joined the stage around midway through the event and kept everyone dancing with their lively, chaotic ska-infused punk. Face To Face, an OC favorite with their high-energy skate punk show, was one of the bands I was most looking forward to seeing. Then there was TSOL, which has long been a favorite of mine. The way the band seems and sounds makes you think they’re a laidback group, but once they start playing, they’re anything but!

As soon as TSOL walked onstage and began playing, their music ‘punched’ you in the face.

After a long day of moshing and skanking, it was finally time for headliners Suicidal Tendencies to take the stage. As soon as the band took the stage, the audience erupted in applause. I’ve never seen/shot a faster, more enthusiastic or harder band. Frontman Mike Muir ran all over the stage, giving his audience precisely what they wanted. Overall, it was the perfect way to cap off a fantastic Saturday in San Pedro and it was undoubtedly an event for all punk fans! We look forward to seeing you again next year!
