Deftones draws fans near & far for Sacramento hometown show

On Saturday, March 1st, Deftones took the stage for their biggest hometown show yet at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA. It’s been 37 years since Deftones formed and they are drawing in crowds bigger than ever — and we love to see it! Frontman Chino Moreno said it was so good to be home and you could tell by his big smiles all night that they were having the best time.

The night began with Fleshwater from Boston and, honestly, they were fantastic. The band consists of Marisa Shirar on vocals and guitar, Anthony Didio also on vocals and guitar, Jeremy Martin on bass, Jon Lhaubouet on guitar, and drummer Josian Omar Soto Ramos. They opened the night with their hit “Standalone”, followed by “Kiss the Ladder”, “Enjoy”, “Linda Claire”, “What Was Really Said”, “Woohoo” leading to the grand finale “Foreign”.

They were the perfect opening band for the night and the crowd loved them.

Next up, from El Paso, Texas, was The Mars Volta, who treated fans to mostly all new songs from their forthcoming album, Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacio, rumored to be released next month. For the most part, fans were stoked to hear their new material.

Opening up with “Be Quiet and Drive”, the crowd went absolutely wild when Deftones came out. The setlist was so amazing with songs from every album. Some of my favorites from the night were “My Own Summer”, “Digital Bath”, “You’ve Seen the Butcher”, “Rocket Skates”, “Sextape”, “Hole in the Earth”, “Change”, “Bored”, and, of course, their closer “7 Words”. It was really awesome to see the crowd vibing and the mosh pits breaking out! My daughter said the whole night was so nostalgic and I had to agree: they sounded amazing and Chino’s energy is always unmatched!

Like myself, I think everyone didn’t want the night to end.

If you are planning to see Deftones on this tour, you are going to have the best time ever! Thank you to Deftones for allowing me the opportunity to photograph them again. As one of my favorite bands, it was such an honor.
