Sister duo, Larkin Poe, leaves Chicago wanting more

Chicago’s historic Thalia Hall welcomed in the dynamic sister duo Larkin Poe for an unforgettable evening of American roots-rock music. Larkin Poe, known for their electrifying blend of blues, rock, and folk music, did not disappoint as they delivered a style only they could create for the sold-out crowd of 1,040 people.

Larkin Poe is a sister duo consisting of Rebecca Lovell and Megan Lovell, originally from Georgia, but now reside in the infamous music city Nashville, Tennessee. The band started as a side project for the sisters, but quickly gained momentum, earning critical acclaim and a loyal fanbase with their unique sound and impassioned performances. The name comes from their great-great-great grandfather, a distant cousin to the infamous writer, Edgar Allan Poe. 

Rebecca, who plays guitar and sings lead vocals, is known for her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, while Megan, who plays lap steel guitar while standing up provides intricate melodies and mesmerizing harmonies. 

The sisters showcased their excellent skills as both vocalists and instrumentalists during their show for their faithful Chicago fans. The band continued to play a variety of their best songs, including “Back Down South” and “Holy Ghost Fire,” which featured Rebecca’s soaring voice and Megan’s exceptional guitar solos. The highlight of the night, however, was the band’s electrifying rendition of “Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues,” which had the crowd singing along to every word at the top of their lungs.

It was clear that Larkin Poe’s music had a profound impact on their fans, and the energy in the room was electric.

This is their fifth to last show in the US before the duo embarks on a journey to Australia, and then across the pond to the UK to finish up their “Blood Harmony” tour in the fall.

Larkin Poe’s live performance at the Thalia Hall was a one of a kind live set to always remember. The band’s exceptional musicianship and powerhouse performance left me feeling energized and inspired. The unique blend of blues, rock, and folk music, coupled with the band’s engaging personalities, created a truly unforgettable night of music. It’s no surprise that Larkin Poe is quickly becoming one of the most exciting and innovative bands in the industry, and one that music lovers should keep an eye on in the future.
