SOFI TUKKER breaks ‘BREAD’ with San Francisco
GRAMMY-nominated duo SOFI TUKKER brought their signature high-energy performance to a sold-out crowd at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. As the last stop on the BREAD Tour, the energy in the venue was wall-to-wall electric. This tour was in support of their third studio album BREAD — an acronym for “Be Really Energetic and Dance” — and their performance was the living embodiment of that.
The duo, composed of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, have built a reputation for themselves providing vibrant and crowd-interactive performances. Their stage setup was a take on a Grecian playground: arched monkey bars, a swing set, and several columned podiums adorned the stage and were used actively throughout the night.
At one point, the duo brought two fans up onstage for some booty-shaking — a staple in a SOFI TUKKER set.
Well-timed laser light shows and visuals only amplified the beat drops of each song and were perfectly synced to the duo’s larger-than-life energy. Dancers performed alongside them with choreographed moves that incorporated the playground set design and bread-shaped weights as a nod to their album title.
SOFI TUKKER took the audience through a night of all emotions with heartwarming tunes like “Best Friend” and “Hey Homie”, as well as pulsing dance tracks like “Purple Hat”, “Jacaré”, and “Drinkee”. Much like their albums, the show was a full-bodied experience, drawing everyone in the audience to let loose and revel in the music. The duo gave it their all for the last show, as did the fans. The night was a multifaceted experience that doesn’t compare to other acts out there.
