ZZ Ward winds down tour in Santa Barbara with Angel White

The Lobero Theatre historical building in downtown Santa Barbara hosted blues rock artist ZZ Ward, along with country soul rock singer Angel White on Saturday, November 23rd. On a somewhat rainy night, people headed indoors to a small theater to enjoy some live music. Texas native Angel White opened up the show; I wasn’t aware of any of his music until this night and, being a country music fan myself, it was a good to hear a familiar sound. With songs like “Crossroads”, “Outlaw”, and “2733”, Angel White and his band had a great time onstage and sounded very well. White took the time to show off some dance moves towards the end of the set, letting the crowd know it was the last show of their tour.

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter ZZ Ward performed her modern blues rock next.

The “Ride” (from the motion picture Cars 3) singer played her last show of the 2024 year for a crowd who sat and enjoyed her hits with a couple of back stories. With the stage mainly dim with blue lights, ZZ Ward and her band were mellow to match the audience, without too much active stage presence — just sticking to playing an amazing sounding set. ZZ Ward told a story of how motherhood changed her for the better and how it inspired her to write her newest single, “Mother”. Other standout songs in the performance were “Put the Gun Down”,  “Sex & Stardust”, and “Til the Casket Drops”. As the crowd was locked into the music, very few had their phones out recording, which is always great to see nowadays.
