Bowling for Ronnie, the once-a-year charity event to support the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, is back. Each year, the bowling tournament attracts celebrities across the music and movie industries, taking place this year on November 14th at PINZ Bowling Center in Studio City, California — just northwest of Hollywood.
The charity has raised over $2 million to date.
Founded by Wendy Dio, Ronnie James Dio‘s wife, after the metal icon passed away from stomach cancer in 2010 at age 67, Stand Up and Shout gives a philanthropic call to action to one of Dio’s most cherished songs.
And the 2024 installment was another sold-out, A-list event, attended by many notable musicians, including Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello, original Dio drummer Vinny Appice, Ozzy Osbourne bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson, Eagles of Death Metal‘s Jesse Hughes, Megadeth’s Dirk Verbeuren, Phil Demmel of Machine Head, and so many others.
Even stars of the silver screen Corey Feldman and Zack Ward showed up, the latter (known for his role in 1983’s A Christmas Story) clearly a bowler who meant business!
The event was once again hosted by Eddie Trunk, the renowned voice of SiriusXM’s 103 Faction Talk channel. With so many celebrities coming together for a good cause (and a great amount of bowling!), this night was both iconic and surreal.
RIP Dio, in all your glory! And let your legend live on, not only in your music, but in the hope you continue to bring to those suffering from and surviving cancer.
