Hang loose, brothas — BeachLife has taken shape yet again! On the sandy shores of Redondo Beach, set just inches from the pier, is an annual get-together that has quickly grown to define the community.
It unites surfing, music, art, skate, and global conservation into one giant party; its name is BeachLife.
Founded by Pennywise‘s own Jim Lindberg, alongside his renowned Redondo community members as benefactors, the BeachLife wave originally barreled into town May of 2019 — boasting an IMPRESSIVE lineup of legends Bob Weir, Brian Wilson, and Willie Nelson. What a trifecta! With high hopes for May of 2020, the world unfortunately had other plans, postponing BeachLife 2 till the Fall of 2021. Nothing we could do then, but wait. After that hiatus and a successful Fall edition, the fest was then triumphantly returned to its original helm — the first weekend of May — for its 2022 installment. And, boy, was that a big one. Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, and Steve Miller Band. Black Pumas, Sheryl Crow, Vance Joy, and Stone Temple Pilots. The list went on and on.
Now, returning seaside May 5th through 7th, BeachLife 2023 has been announced.
If you thought BeachLife has peaked, think again.
As festivals try to regain composure and recoup ticket sales coming out of quarantine, there have been some obvious cutbacks: some have jammed all bands into one day instead of spanning three days, then double (or even triple!!) down on profits by selling several days of the same festival; others have cut back on expensive headliners to then sell mediocre lineups beyond venue capacity. We’ve seen all the tricks to get people to come back and enjoy live music. Standing alone outside of this disconcerting trend is BeachLife Fest, boldly maintaining quality of entertainment without overpromising, underdelivering, or overcrowding. It’s a gem amongst fool’s gold.
Now, we realize these are fighting words, so why don’t you judge it for yourself. Go to the fourth annual this May and try to have a bad time. Truly. Report back to us if you experience lack of stage views, negative crowd vibes, or that ‘sardined in’ feeling. Bet you won’t. Is it the perfect festival? We won’t go that far… But, with the announcement of musical acts today, we bet you will be too busy enjoying yourself at BeachLife 2023 to sweat any minor inconveniences (that is, if any arise).
The Black Keys, The Black Crowes — either of those bands do anything for ya?? How about the queen of SoCal ska turned top of the pops, Ms. Gwen Stefani? Los Angeles residents (and stoners everywhere), get ready to revel in the FULL 40 Oz. To Freedom album sung live by Sublime with Rome. And, did anyone order a side of John Fogerty performing his classic CCR hits? Summertime doesn’t hit as well without a little Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Now, naturally, this is already an event that has the attention of young and old, genre-spanning music enthusiasts alike… but, BeachLife 2023 is just getting started. There’s performances by Pixies, Modest Mouse, Tegan & Sara, Band of Horses, Iration, Dispatch, CAAMP, The Head and the Heart, Trampled By Turtles, Aly & AJ, Shwayze, Noah Cyrus, Kurt Vile and the Violaters, LP, and SO MANY OTHERS. Reggae greats like The Wailers will be playing alongside what you have to call ‘veteran’ BeachLife artists by now (spanning three-plus years!!), like Sugar Ray, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, Donavon Frankenreiter, and (naturally) festival co-founder Jim Lindberg.
Both single-day and weekend passes for BeachLife 2023 are on sale NOW, so make sure you lock down your tickets while you can! Of course, you can upgrade this yacht party on land by springing for a Captains Pass (now available for single-day purchase!!!), as well as an all-encompassing Admirals Pass (where you really live the high life). Whatever fits into your budget, we hope to see you dancing in the sand this May in Redondo! For more information, visit www.beachlifefestival.com or learn more via the links below.
