Cali Roots finalizes jaw dropping lineup for 2023

California Roots Music and Art Festival, the genre’s most anticipated, prolific, and environmentally-friendly reggae event of the year, has officially dropped the final three acts to complete their Memorial Day weekend roster.

Recently announced 2023 Coachella guests Rebelution and Stick Figure join genre-bending icons Thievery Corporation, finalizing the bill for the all ages festival as it returns in all its glory for a thirteenth installment to the Monterey County Fair and Event Center. Four days of love, friendship, and magic keep loyal festival-goers returning year after year, and the recent headliner reveal complements an already-stacked list of fan favorites and newcomers alike. A beacon of opportunity, Cali Roots is known for providing much-needed exposure to its lesser-known musical acts and visual artists. Most continue on to see successful careers, jump-started by the selective hand of cofounder and talent buyer Dan Sheehan.

For the last decade and beyond Rebelution, Stick Figure, and Thievery Corporation have steadily built bases of highly devoted fans and cemented their high-profile statuses at some of the nation’s biggest festivals–think Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. The three highly sought-after acts continue to fuel their bountiful ticket sales and streaming plays via relentless touring at the national and world level and regular new releases.

While joined alongside many other big names in music, it’s not all about the razzle dazzle at this festival. As of 2020 Cali Roots’ Greening Initiative has earned them a California Green Certification–meaning organizers have gone above and beyond to ensure carbon solutions, waste elimination, and giving back to environmental causes are at the forefront of their ethos. Things run a little differently here; for example, single use water bottles and plastic cups are not a thing (they’ve diverted over 600,000 of them). Instead, you can purchase or bring an empty water bottle to fill at the water station or purchase a metal pint cup for beer. This initiative has helped plant over 7,500 Redwood trees, offset over 17 million pounds of carbon, and raise over $20,000 for the Surfrider Foundation, Save Our Shores & Last Plastic Straw, among other achievements.

Ever the family friendly event, kids ten and under are free with a paid guardian. Get your single-day early bird tickets, on sale this week, in addition to the 4-day General Admission and Redwood (similar to VIP) passes already available. Also offered are travel packages including hotel accommodations, with monthly payment option.
