John Brown’s Body “Kings And Queens In Dub” album

John Brown’s Body proves once again that they are one of the leaders in the development of American reggae. The New York/Boston based band has just announced that they will release their most recent project, Kings And Queens In Dub, on April 7th. While the group’s last album bears much resemblance in name (Kings And Queens) the sound on the new record will be entirely different. Kings And Queens In Dub will consist of dubbed versions of all songs featured on Kings And Queens, an album that was a fixture near the top of the Billboard Reggae Charts when it came out in 2013.

Not many bands can say that they have been featured on Rolling Stone Magazine’s “Top 10 Indie Record List”

Following in the footsteps of famed dub-masters King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry, JBB are bringing back the popular reggae sub genre that originated in 1960s Jamaica. While dub versions have been featured on recent records by E.N Young and Rebelution, dub albums are not a common practice for American bands. But JBB is not like most American bands, having released eclectic and original music since their formation in 1995. Not many bands can say that they have been featured on Rolling Stone Magazine’s “Top 10 Indie Record List” (1996) and list Talib Kweli and Radiohead as musical influences.

JBB brought in world renown dub artists to produce this artistically ambitious new album. UK bred dub musicians Dennis Bovell and Yesking are featured on In Dub as well as a slew of artists like Dubfader(of 10 ft. Ganja Plant), Michael G.(Easy Star All-Stars), and Lord Echo(The Black Seeds). Keep in mind that JBB already incorporates elements from ‘far-off’ genres such as hip hop and funk so this remastered release promises to be incredibly diverse.  The first song on the album, “Pulsing Dub” mixed by Yesking, is already available on the band’s SoundCloud page.

The band will host a record-release show at the Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on April 20th and will play the biggest reggae festival of the year on American soil, California Roots, on May 23rd in Monterey California.
