The art of Struggle from Roots of Creation

Roots of Creation (RoC) is a band based out of New Hampshire. With founding members, Brett Wilson, Tal Pearson (keys), and Mike Chadinha (drums), and newest members, Nick Minicucci (bass), Billy Kottage (of Reel Big Fish) and Andrew Riordan, the band has become a staple among the reggae-rock nation. Playing at such festivals as Wakarusa and Closer to the Sun, as well as sold-out shows with such bands as Slightly Stoopid, Fishbone, and Michael Franti, RoC has also been recognized as “Favorite Jam Band” by Cider Magazine and “Best Band In New Hampshire” by the New England Music Awards.

RoC will be releasing their single, “Struggle” off their upcoming LP, Livin Free. One of their most-anticipated albums to be released, Livin Free will feature 18-tracks and be distributed by ILS/Caroline/Universal Music Group. It will also be available as a 3-disc deluxe collection, featuring both dub/remix and acoustic versions of 14 of the LP’s tracks in digital and CD formats. A limited edition will also be available on double 12” vinyl.

Top Shelf Reggae had the opportunity to exclusively premiere the Ras MG Remix version of “Struggle.” Available as part of a maxi-single pack, the song will be available on March 4th and will be one of four versions available. As its title suggests, the song speaks of the struggle that is not only found in the music industry, but in pursuing the musical dream. Brett Wilson’s lyrics suggest the real reward lies in constantly connecting to an audience. Ras MG (Sublime, Long Beach Dub All Stars) effects are apparent, and we really enjoyed the bubble of the keys, the acoustic guitar, as well as the buildup toward the end.
