The Year of Fiction 20 Down

Baltimore-based band Fiction 20 Down has opted to not only take 2015 by storm, but to leave all conventional means to do so by the wayside. As other bands bask in flickering spotlights to promote their latest work, F20D has instead envisioned an entire year devoted to their music – releasing a single each month alongside videos, podcasts, covers and more – appropriately titling the endeavor The Year of Fiction 20 Down (#YearF20D). Thus far, the band has not disclosed if the campaign will eventually compile into their second full-length album following Where's the Levity? of 2013; also bedazzling their resume is their 2011 EP Do Not Feed the Radio and Live at the Hadabee launched on media outlets last December and debuting within the iTunes reggae charts top 10. Whether or not another LP is the final destination on their yearlong venture, it is evident that the boys of F20D have at least ten more consecutive tricks hidden up their sleeves.

“Suburban Gangster (One Breath)” is the second single showcased within the #YearF20D project and is a track openly dedicated to Baltimore Ravens lineman Marshal Yanda's laid-back aphorism “embrace the grind”. Needless to say, the song is just that: easygoing, inspiring, invoking personal reflection and emphasizing the urgency of accomplishment – you only have “one breath, banging in your chest.” A synthesis of dancehall reggae, hip hop and spoken word comprise the track balanced with soft horn riffs and smooth electric guitar. Since “Surbaban Gangster” differs greatly from January's hip-hop underscored “New York Thing”, F20D fans are sure to be bursting with intrigue for what's to come in March.
