Finland is genuinely known for their snowy landscapes and northern lights. Well, hold on to that mellow though, because you are about to experience a band that will take you far, far away from anything tranquil — or that you have ever witnessed. Oranssi Pazuzu has unleashed their Muuntautuja album via Nuclear Blast Records.
Since 2007, this band has reached black metal majesty, with hints of psychedelia.
Muuntautuja, their latest and sixth full-length LP, combines ambient music tones, horror schemes, and scientific elements. It’s dark, lemme tell ya. Just check out these lyrics: “I remember you // I remember your face // I remember blackened nails // Light scroll in the hallway // On a dirty floor // Transformer, smuggler // You are a fog that cannot be seen // The body does not live (you live).”
Oranssi Pazuzu‘s vibe is trippy, yet draped in darkness to keep listeners at the edge of their seats. Their unique blend of black metal combines layers of ambient structures with mind-blowing exploration… like a time warp of bizarrely powerful art.
The legendary black metal-lers begin the album with the track “Bioakemisti”, ladled with obscure, dark, tech vibes. It sounds like a horror movie, as the victims run for their lives. “Muuntautuja” has a steady beat, with close to sub-audible screams that cut through the song like a machete.
“Voitelu” then thrusts into static mode with blood curdling vocals.
“Hautatuuli” has a more mellow beginning, with rhythmic metal melodies and groovy drums before Valotus” gets fast and furious to cause the listener utter fear — like chainsaws coming for you!
The rest of this very intricate stellar soundscape will scare and intrigue you at the same time. The whole album is riveting, perfect to dissolve end-of-year funks and transcend with hardcore metal influences. Go check it out!
