Ever since his debut album Hear Me Roar in 2007, J Boog has escalated to be one of the biggest industry names in the reggae scene. Shortly after his initial success, J Boog was inducted into the San Francisco-based Wash House Music Group family, where he recorded his sophomore smash LP Backyard Boogie with hits like “Let’s Do It Again” and “Sunshine Girl” – an album that secured him Best New Entertainer in Chicago’s International Reggae and World Music Awards of 2012. Now nine years after his first release, J Boog is about to introduce the world to his much anticipated third full-length album Wash House Ting on November 18th. Three songs on the album actually carried over from his Rose Petals EP, including the title track, “Brighter Days”, and “Good Cry” featuring Chaka Demus. More guest appearances on the new album include Buju Banton, Gramps Morgan (of Morgan Heritage), Lion Fyah, Gappy Ranks, Aarahdna, Tenelle, and Fiji. Between J Boog’s appealing Polynesian sound and the eclectic collaboration from his friends, Wash House Ting is one album you don’t want to miss out on.
Wash House Ting is all about promoting love and positivity.
Split between political activism and love ballads, Wash House Ting is all about promoting love and positivity. Growing up in Compton, J Boog experienced first-hand the hate that brews in the ghettos of this country, and now equipped with a microphone, he’s not afraid to tell people there’s another way to live. The first couple of tracks on the album welcome the listener in with one central message: leave your biases and discrimination at the door, this album is about “love over everything”. J Boog knows, especially now more than ever, that we, as an American people and citizens of the world, need to start uniting together. The second track on the LP, “Don’t Worry”, is actually something that people distraught over the recent election can take solace in: don’t worry “about the things you can’t control”, for “this world will drive you crazy”. Freedom is subjective, and we have to recognize the blessings that we’re given. And, of course, you can’t have a J Boog album without a good amount of songs for the ladies. J Boog’s soulful crooning always makes the ladies swoon, and tracks like “Let Me Love You”, “Rose Petals”, and “I Got You” will definitely give his lady fans their fix. A couple notable deviations from the peace and love theme on the album are heard on tracks like “Blaze It For Days” and “Cut This Off”: the former turns up the synth for a weed song you can medicate and meditate to, and the latter is actually about ending a relationship (versus his normal courting approach).
Following the album release, J Boog is all set to go on a subsequent national winter tour this January, kicking off from San Diego’s Observatory Theatre on January 12th with support from Jemere Morgan and Jo Mersa Marley, and ending at The Novo in Los Angeles on February 25th. Wash House Ting is already available for pre-order on all major digital music outlets.
