Mystic Roots Band ‘CHANGE’ album review

It’s not hard to pin down the classic hip hop, pop and reggae influences coursing through Northern California-based band Mystic Roots. The band’s latest album CHANGE is heavily indebted to their NorCal roots but manages to create a sound all their own.

We are happy to present this album to the world; it brings many styles to the table but remains firmly rooted in reggae

Released on Stay Positive Productions/Roots Musician Music, Mystic Roots delivers with the most vibrant and inventive album of its career. “Marie” is a hard-driving number that showcases the energy and passion in front-woman Katherine “Kat” Ramirez lead vocals. “Lullaby” is a pure reggae delight with a great melody, and first single “Trouble” is immediately engaging, showcasing the cheeky charm at the heart of the band’s appeal.

“When we started recording CHANGE, we didn’t really have a specific concept in mind. We had some rootsy tunes, but were also experimenting with new styles and sounds. We realized that this evolution in our songwriting was a perfect analog to what was happening in the band and in our own lives. That’s when the title CHANGE hit us as the purest and simplest way to sum it all up. We are happy to present this album to the world; it brings many styles to the table but remains firmly rooted in reggae. That’s the Mystic and the Roots.”

Skilled musicianship and insightful songwriting have earned this band a place in the national reggae spotlight and this terrific album show it has the goods to shine for a long time.
