Portland-based indie singer-songwriter Shiloh Mae has dropped another beautiful track, “Photograph”. Mae is nothing short of brilliant. Her vocals are smooth and diverse. Any listener from all walks of life will dig her sound. Reminiscent of Lizzy McAlpine and Maggie Rogers, her music is eccentric and alluring.
For those that need an introduction, this beautiful siren is not so new on the music scene.
She has previously wrote and played with her band, Bird and Willow, formed with her brother Jared. Bird and Willow shared many Bay Area stages over the years, with fellow local artists and some of their favorite touring acts like Sherwood, Fialta, Tyson Motsenbocker, The Collection, and Mike Edel. Shiloh has also performed alongside Zach Winters, Josiah Johnson (former member of The Head and the Heart), and Landon Elliott.
Deciding to navigate a solo project, Shiloh’s latest song “Photograph” describes the challenging task of holding onto memories of a relationship, even amidst letting go. Muffled guitar seeps through the first verse like a blurry recollection, eventually building to meet the plaintive cry:
The love ‘isn’t mine to have’.
Produced by Carson Poncé in Portland, this song explores the moodier side of Shiloh’s voice and storytelling. This track hits home for me after having left a very long relationship, but whether or not you’re in the same boat as me, I think the subject matter is relatable to all of us. Letting go is the hardest thing, because love is imprinted in our souls — we remember the good, just like photographs. Check this track out, you will fall in love with her!
