Phoenix-based solo artist The Wiley One is accomplishing a mighty feat throughout this year and next, dropping new music around the cycles of the moon. Dubbed his “Full Moon Series”, Wiley has already released two singles — for the Flower and Strawberry moons, respectively, of May and June 2024 — drastically different in style and delivery. The premiere of the Full Moon Series started with “Get It Back”, a hip hop-infused, 90s-style confidence booster, featuring the talents of Gin Blossoms guitarist Scotty Johnson; the Strawberry Moon saw “Jail Bird” come to life, acoustic, melodic, and sentimental with help from a violinist.
With another full moon tonight, Wiley releases his exciting third installment.
August 19th welcomes the Sturgeon Moon, a powerful force for personal development. What better way to honor this time of manifestation, growth, and renewal than by bringing back an oldie-but-goodie track that talks to innocence, the loss thereof, and regaining it again. Plus, it’s not only a full moon tonight, but a Blue Supermoon! Talk about magnification of cyclical energy!
Originally released in 2012 via Wiley’s debut Kill It With Love LP, “Naked” gets a harder edge in its remix by Se7venth Element. What once was organic and somewhat simple is now more electric and anthemic; it’s a natural evolution, just like that in life. Echos push the song’s purity into an ethereal realm (especially with soprano keys keeping the beat), while Wiley bares his soul in his lyrics (pun intended).
We’re born naked, then are told to cover up. Life is full of mixed messages, with the baring of our skin being the first. What was once fitting is no longer proper as you grow older; what you once knew is now completely taboo.
The only constant in life is change, often sneaking in our lives while we are at our most vulnerable — in the nude.
As Wiley matures, he undresses for the first time with a lover, changing up his perspective in his own skin yet again. But just when he thinks he’s got a grasp on love and life, he imagines how everything will be thrown upside down once more with the birth of his own child one day, gracing this world — you guessed it — naked. Considering the remix is an evolution of a song about life cycles, it’s only appropriate (and pretty meta) to set its release to the most cyclical entity in nature — the moon.
Wiley comments on his full moon series: “I’ve always said if I can be inspired and, in turn, inspire others, I can be happy. My only goal is to stay creative and share it with as many ears as possible. It’s never too early and never too late to follow your passions and take positive action towards fulfilling a dream. I’d like to inspire everyone who listens to the music to know that.”
