True Loves releases funky 7″ for “Dopus No. 1” B-side single

Funk jam bands are simply the best. You can’t NOT have a good time with one of these records on the turntable. Combine it with two good time staples such as good weed and red wine and you’ve got yourself a vibe. That’s the exact scene True Loves sets with their summertime single (you guessed it) “Good Weed and Red Wine”, now being released as a special 7″ vinyl with the band’s latest and greatest single on the B-side — “Dopus. No. 1”.

“Aka The Grifter, aka Mr. Holland’s Dopus”.

At least, that’s what the track is labeled as on the back of the pressing. With horn flairs over a walking bass, a funky guitar riff, and guest Nigel Hall on keys, “Dopus No. 1” lives up to its name. It is the opus of dopeness. It’s a song for the debonair, the movers and the shakers. It means business. It can be a track for the heist montage in the movie… or when the lead hero cruises the town top-down in his Camaro. It’s a feather-in-your-hat kind of track, with a crescendo at the end culminating in yet another round of horns (the bass sax booming along).

This B-side is a perfect pairing to the lighter, airier “Good Weed and Red Wine” A-side, with a more reggae skank to the guitar. Horn-heavy as per usual, the track tells a more laidback tale, again with the deep bass sax really taking centerstage halfway through. There’s one particular dirty riff that is sure to get any live audience screaming.
