The Fixx at San Diego’s Music Box
Generation X packed The Music Box for an evening of flashback memories the night of August 18th, 2019. Steve West from San Diego alt radio station 94.9 was up onstage spinning 80s faves; not the usual ones we hear on the radio, but the awesome ones that only 80s kids remember.
Reminisce the 80s: the New Wave genre was introduced and each band had their own unmistakable distinct sound. We, fans, got to travel back in time to MTV videos, while middle school and high school memories flooded our minds as we sang with The Fixx.
One of the few bands that still has the original members, The Fixx came out to an excited packed house.
One of the few bands that still has the original members, The Fixx came out to an excited packed house. Fans packed the floor, all the way up to the third story, filling every open space along the balconies. Opening with “Calm Animal”, “Lost Planes” and “Driven Out” and dressed to impress, The Fixx was looking sharp, classy and classic with an 80s spin. “Are We Ourselves?” got the crowd jumping and singing. Cy Curnin acknowledged his beautiful wife in the crowd. We could all feel the love they share by the way they looked at each other with adoring eyes — so sweet! Curnin started off saying he had been married for 34 years, but to three different people. Funny guy.
Shows are never long enough, especially for bands like The Fixx who have a long list of our favorites. We want to hear them all! They performed hits “Stand or Fall”, “The Sign of Fire”, “Deeper and Deeper”, “Red Skies” and closed the show with “Secret Separation”, as the cheering crowd hoped for an encore.
