Bastille & Joywave at The Greek

Bastille continues their North American tour this fall, spending the night of Saturday, October 12th October at the beautiful Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. This tour was in support of their new album Doom Days, which was just released this past June. They brought their American fans an outstanding set of 20 songs, along with a spectacular stage design and, of course, an excellent choice of an opening band. 

A large Joywave sign on the screen announced the direct supporting band, who came onstage wearing neon yellow outfits. Frontman, Daniel, greeted the audience as “Future Joywave fans”; he seemed confident entertaining everyone while having fun. Joywave started with songs from their upcoming album and continued with well-known hits, such as “Tongues” and “It’s A Trip!”. Daniel also mentioned the album in between songs and promised to come back in spring with a headlining tour.

Despite their light music style, Bastille mentions serious themes within their songs that attracts diverse audiences — especially young ones.

As soon as Bastille began their set, the crowd was impressed with an unusual stage design, obviously developed for the theme of Doom Days. It included stairs, platforms, a spinning clock face turntable, a vintage TV and a giant screen which changed throughout the performance. Bastille managed to create a special atmosphere of unity with their audience. 

Despite their light music style, Bastille mentions serious themes within their songs that attracts diverse audiences — especially young ones. The crowd was singing every word and frontman Dan Smith frequently held the microphone out for all to sing along. The set ended with their big hit “Pompeii”, with Joywave back on the stage. It felt like the barrier between the band and audience was erased completely this evening. Catch both bands in action before the tour ends with dates below!
