Cold War Kids at San Diego’s Observatory North Park

Alt lovers gathered from far and wide the night of Friday, November 15th for an intimate performance by Cold War Kids, supported by Samia, at San Diego’s Observatory North Park. Being a smaller venue (versus big amphitheater performances by CWK), the Observatory filled up real fast as opener Samia took center stage. Cool, complacent, yet sassy, Samia launched into her mellow set (with some rock moments thrown in for good measure). The young New Yorker rolled around the stage, quite literally, taking the crowd on an emotional journey for most of her songs.

The lights finally fell to welcome Cold War Kids to the stage, with diehard fans freaking out in the front row.

At intermission, concertgoers enjoyed drinks at the bar to bide the time between bands. The lights finally fell to welcome Cold War Kids to the stage, with diehard fans freaking out in the front row. CWK immediately launched into their hit list, beginning with “Love Is Mystical”. “This is an old one of ours,” said lead singer Nathan Willett, as the opening notes of “Hang Me Up to Dry” blasted over the crowd. The rest of the show was a sing-along to new tracks, like “Complainer”, and oldie-but-goodies, like “First”. A good time was had all around, as friends and strangers started the weekend off right with a good ol’ fashioned rock show!

If you can’t catch the last show of the tour with Samia tonight at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, the band is planned to continue the tour life next month in Washington D.C. on December 12th through the beginning on 2020.
