Who’s hungry for Music Tastes Good Festival vol. 3?

Rarely do weekend festivals bring as much to the table for cuisine as they do with music – pun intended. Some fests feed on foodie-culture (another pun), like San Diego’s renowned KAABOO Del Mar Festival or Vegas’ annual enigma known as Life Is Beautiful; these are split between music, food, art and comedy although the overall emphasis is music. Nothing wrong with that – music is life! On the flipside, there are hundreds of weekend food events: poke fests, beer fests, taco fests, so on and so forth. Those have music… but the emphasis in this case is on the cuisine. Few events find perfect balance between performance and palate. Cue, Music Tastes Good Festival.

Few events find perfect balance between performance and palate. Cue, Music Tastes Good Festival.

Back in its third year, Josh Fischel's two-day tasty retreat is returning to the majestic Marina Green Park in Long Beach, California this upcoming September 29th and 30th, celebrating culinary achievement alongside the biggest names in the music industry. Presented by 89.9 KCRW, Music Tastes Good vol. 3 proffers a more inclusive and expansive ‘Taste Tent’ with the theme ‘Port Cities of the West Coast’, meaning festivalgoers get to sample creations from critically-acclaimed west coast chefs, restaurants and pop-ups, from Baja Del Sur all the way up to Vancouver! And, don’t think the free food is only for VIPs: VIP options are available (and, let’s face it, the best way to enjoy any festival), yet all MTG attendees are encouraged take a taste. Chefs signed on for year three include Wesley Young of Vancouver’s Pidgin, Jeffery Vance of Seattle’s No Anchor, Cameron Hanin on Seattle’s Ma’Ono, Pat Manning of Portland’s Toro Bravo, Rachel Aronow (independent, formerly of Alembic), Sincere Justice of Oakland’s Tancos Sincero, Edward Martinez and Michael Thiemann of Sac-town’s Milk Money and Mother (respectively), Dawna Bass of Long Beach’s A Good Carrot, Dina Amadril of Long Beach Creamery, Arthur Gonzales of Long Beach’s Roe/Panxa Cocina, Christine Rivera of San Diego’s Galaxy Tacos and Nancy Leon of Tijuana B.C.S.’s Chan’s Bistro. A lot of hometown culinary heros in the mix!

If that list doesn’t do it for you, attendees are not only prompted to try samples, but to also meet the chefs, listen to chef demos, attend panels and more while the beer and wine flow freely. Not into the fancy stuff? Don’t worry. There will be a carefully curated set of food vendors around the event grounds, ready to satiate any craving you may have. Full menu details will be shared ahead of time closer to the event.

And, that’s just the first course! Let’s talk flavors of music that will be on the menu for 2018. With over 40 bands on the bill, the event will be headed by 80s alt-legends New Order and James Blake. Daily lineups are already announced, so turning up the heat on Saturday with New Order is Joey Bada$$, Santigold, Broken Social Scene, Princess Nokia, Lil B, Blake Mills, Big Thief, Cherry Glazerr, Oliver Tree, Shame, Los Master Plus, Qunitron & Miss Pussycat, No BS! Brass Band, Radiolistener: Tribute to Isaiah “Ikey” Owens, Feels, Forest of Tongue, Neighbor Lady, BLCKNOISE, Haunted Summer and Manuel the Band. Day two is just as flavorful as the first with Janelle Monåe (just added!!), Black Angels, Parquet Courts, The Church, Lizzo, Sun Kil Moon, Uk reggae-pop sensation Hollie Cook, Bill Callahan, Hailu Mergia, Ezra Furman, The Blow, De Lux, Ladama, Ethio Cali, B.A.G.
