Tribute to the Reggae Legends 2015

It’s that time in February again, not only to have celebrated what would have been Robert Nestor Marley’s 70th Birthday, but to also honor reggae legends who have helped spread messages of love and hope.

Although SOJA was an American reggae nominee for The 57th Annual Grammys Awards among top contenders, such as Ziggy Marley (who won! Congratulations!) and Lee “Scratch” Perry, it was great to see an American band who has also helped spread messages of love and unity. SOJA is known for rocking high-energy performances and also connecting with youth through music.

An event that has been dear to Southern California, though, is the WorldBeat Cultural Center’s Tribute to the Reggae Legends, which takes place annually and is the non-profit’s biggest fundraiser. Formerly known as Bob Marley Day, some of Jamaica’s heaviest-hitting reggae artists and bands fly in to perform for this endearing tribute.

This year’s line-up features such acts as Sister Carol, Michael Palmer, The Mighty Diamonds, Don Carlos, Twinkle Brothers, Chronixx, and even Groundation and Pato Banton. The 34th annual tribute is actually a two-day event this year and is being held at the Cultural Plaza near the World Beat Center, in honor of Balboa Park’s 100th anniversary of museums and recreational centers in San Diego, California.

Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased by clicking this link. Prices for each day are $60, and a 2-day pass is $115. The renowned artist, Midnite, was scheduled to play on Saturday, February 14th, but had to cancel at the last moment due to an illness.
