Incubus takes 20 years of ‘Morning View’ & more to Lincoln, CA

On Friday July 18th, Incubus performed at The Venue at Thunder Valley in Lincoln, CA — one of those places where every seat in the house is a great seat!

With a start time shift from 7:30 to 7pm, it was kind of a bummer for opener Paris Jackson who had to perform to an emptier stadium than if the show went on as originally scheduled — for she was absolutely amazing. She came out to the stage with just her guitar; her whole set was just perfect and beautiful! I have always wanted to see her and I’m so happy I finally got to! During her set, Paris noted that the next band, Manchester Orchestra, was made up of some awesome guys who accompanied her on her first album. Speaking of accompaniment, before her set was over, she invited Mike Einziger (of Incubus) to out to join her onstage and end her set an unreleased (although rather sad) song called “Gaslight”.

Manchester Orchestra from Atlanta, Georgia was up next.

Formed in 2004, the band’s current lineup includes lead singer and rhythm guitarist Andy Hull, lead guitar player Robert McDowell, bassist Andy Prince, and drummer Tim Very. They had such great energy and their music was raw, powerful, and emotional.

Before long, it was time for the main event. The crowd went absolutely crazy when Incubus came out playing their beloved Morning View album in it’s entirety—in order, front-to-back—for the 20th anniversary of its 2001 release. A true highlight was when Einziger showcased his skills on the Chinese pipa (lute) during the album closer “Aqueous Transmission”.

On top of the full album, there were a few fun surprises thrown in, such as blending “Are You In?” with Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight”. They then began “Under My Umbrella” with an intro of “Umbrella” by Rihanna! Six other fan-favorites in the rundown were “Megalomaniac”, “Anna Molly”, “The Warmth”, “Vitamin”, “Drive”, and a grand finale with everyone in the place belting out in unison every lyric to “Pardon Me”. I feel like I have to mention that the bass player, Nicole Row, has such a great voice that harmonizes beautifully with Brandon Boyd’s.

Overall, it was an amazing night and a show you wouldn’t want to miss! Thank you to all the bands and performers for allowing us to attend and photograph — it truly is such an honor!!
