Beartooth & Motionless in White at SOMA San Diego

Beartooth and Motionless in White kicked off the New Year on January 8th at SOMA San Diego as part of their Diseased and Disguised co-headlining tour, named after their most recent album releases. As I rolled up to SOMA, the line waiting for doors to open was wrapped around the building! All ages — from my high school friends (we’re old, like 50ish) to single-digit kids — packed in GA on the floor. SOMA is standing room only: the ‘if I jump, you jump, because you are that close to the person next you’ kind of place. This crowd was pumped up for MIW, too.

All ages — from my high school friends (we’re old, like 50ish) to single-digit kids — packed in GA on the floor.

Chris “Motionless” Cerulli said, “The holidays may be over, but it’s Halloween every single day on this stage.” Yes, it was! The stage was set with heavy fog and amazing lights. “Motionless” and Justin Morrow (bassist, former guitarist for Ice Nine Kills) came out in full makeup, which looked amazing like their faces were cracking. The Motionless in White setlist opened with “Disguise” (of course), followed by songs like “Thoughts and Prayers”, “Undead Ahead 2”, “Abigail” and closing with “Reincarnate”.

Beartooth took the stage, opening up with “The Lines”.  Caleb Shomo (lead vocals, guitars) is a fury of energy and emotion, firing up the mosh pit fast. With Kamron Bradbury (rhythm guitar), Oshie Bichar (bass, backing vocals), Connor Denis (drums, backing vocals) and Zach Huston (lead guitar, backing vocals), Beartooth played a 14-song setlist, including “You Never Know”, “Loser” and “Sick of Me”. Their tour continues, so check them out in a city near you!
