Dayseeker’s Dark Star Protocol tour ignites metalcore memories for fans in Royal Oak

The Dark Sun Protocol tour was a complete success in Royal Oak, as four bands came together to connect and have fun with the crowd.

The first band on stage was Kingdom of Giants, who started the night with an explosive performance. If I didn’t know any better, I would have guessed they were the headliner. They had no trouble getting the crowd going, even as the opener, with crowd surfing beginning just four songs in. A wall of death was even encouraged before the set was halfway through!

Catch Your Breath took the stage next, bringing back the vibes of emo songs from the glory days of the early 2000s. Lead singer Josh Mowery sang of relatable struggles, like addiction and indifferent parents. Towards the end of their set, they played their biggest single, “Dial Tone,” which everyone instantly recognized. There was no crowd surfing during their set, but it made sense, as the crowd was deeply focused on relating to the song’s message.

Australian band Alpha Wolf was up third, delivering a performance just as explosive as Kingdom of Giants’.

Breakdown after breakdown, scream after scream, this band didn’t let up for a second.

The crowd felt that energy too, with mosh pits and crowd surfing throughout the entire set. The energy was infectious, leaving me feeling like I could run through a wall in the best way possible.

Dayseeker once called themselves a “sad little band,” but that label doesn’t quite fit anymore. They’re headlining tours, for crying out loud! The show began with screens displaying visuals that felt otherworldly. Singer Rory Rodriguez took the stage with a classy presence, delivering the cleanest vocals of all four bands. Bassist Ramone Rodrigo added a unique touch to their music with some finger-picking, breaking away from the usual pick use.

All four bands were well-loved in Royal Oak, and even kids joined the action by crowd surfing to the front with their parents. Seeing this, it’s clear that they’ll continue to be adored by future generations, and that metalcore is far from dying out.
