Ingrid Michaelson at San Diego’s Observatory North Park
Ingrid Michaelson kicked off The Dramatic Tour this Thursday, October 3rd at San Diego’s Observatory North Park. Starting off the show was talented singer-songwriter/musician Maddie Poppe, known for winning Season 16 of Fox’s American Idol. Coming a long way from a small town in Iowa, Poppe was invited to tour with Ingrid one year following her big win and couldn’t be more thrilled. “I was just trying hard not to fangirl, because I’m supposed to be an artist,” Poppe exclaims, drawing chuckles from the audience. Maddie Poppe performed many of her well-known covers, including “Rainbow Connection”, a song she performed onstage with Kermit the Frog himself. In addition, she played songs off her new full length album Whirlwind, warning the audience before playing one of her favorites, “Nothing Good Comes Out of California”. The audience laughed along and enjoyed her take on the stereotypes of Hollywood.
The Dramatic Tour started with just that: a dramatic entrance by Michaelson, in front of a smokey, Stranger Things-inspired stage setup.
The Dramatic Tour started with just that: a dramatic entrance by Michaelson, in front of a smokey, Stranger Things-inspired stage setup. She danced her way onstage, beginning with new jams such as “Freak Show”, “Jealous” and “Young and in Love” from her brand new album Stranger Songs. Don’t be fooled by this title as these ‘Stranger Songs’ had the whole room dancing! After a few new bops from her 80s inspired album, she moved to give the audience some much promised oldies the crowd knew and loved. Michaelson sweetly sang her famous song “Be Okay”, accompanying herself on ukulele, along with all-time favorites “The Way I Am”, “Girls Chase Boys” and “You and I”. Catch these two power women on The Dramatic Tour as it continues through the west coast this week, with dates in San Francisco (a show excluding Maddie Poppe; Wild will open this night), Portland and Seattle. The tour will continue with plenty of dates through the Mid-West and then conclude the American leg with two dates in New York City. Ingrid will also play London on November 12th, with special guest TBA! Don’t miss out on this great show coming to a city near you!
