Day One of the 3rd Annual Music Tastes Good Festival, commemorating the life of the late Josh Fischel in Long Beach, started out Saturday, September 29th with temperate climates, eclectic tunes and sensational cuisine. Chefs from up and down the west coast were represented in the Taste Tent, with samples being consumed by the millisecond. Satiated, MTG3-goers meandered over to the two music stages to catch early acts Haunted Summer, BLCKNOISE, Forest of Tongue, Manuel the Band, Neighbor Lady, FEELS, Radiolistener: Ikey Tribute and the slammin', skankin' No BS! Brass Band.

Santigold lit up the main stage with animated theatrics, zany costumes and food-shaped inflatables.

For those arriving midday, Quintron and Miss Pussycat was putting on a live puppet show in between musical numbers before Los Master Plus took everyone south of the border. Heavy and alt-rock acts shame and Cherry Glazerr were next, shredding and wailing for audiences at the main Franklin Stage. Over on the smaller Gold Stage, Oliver Tree got weird with it, wearing layers upon layers of 80's attire despite the heat. Tree is one bizarre Alien Boy, let us tell you… Giggling, many wandered over to Big Thief before Princess Nokia's hip hop persona stole the stage. Others taking a break from music wandered back into the Taste Tent for seconds. Some lingered at the front of the Fingerprints Music booth, where Broken Social Scene was signing records for fans. And, if any of those activities didn't suit you, you joined the food comas out on the grassy lawns. Blake Mills took the Gold Stage next before Santigold lit up the main stage with animated theatrics, zany costumes and food-shaped inflatables.

Just in case you weren't having the time of your life, Lil B decided to come out onstage to the “YMCA” while, across the way, Broken Social Scene played their You Forgot It In People premiere album from start to finish. It was then that the main course had arrived: headliners New Order and Joey Bada$$ simultaneously performed, bridging generation gaps and genres galore. Stay tuned for Day Two photos, coming soon!
