12th Annual Summer Meltdown Arts & Music Festival

April is right around the corner, meaning the sunny SoCal town of Santa Clarita is about to transform their city skate park into a site of music and more, known as the Summer Meltdown Arts & Music Festival – an all-ages effort in generating autism awareness. Thrown by the “Yes I Can” students of Canyon High School (as well as program alumni), the 12th Annual Summer Meltdown Festival is set to be held this April 25th with over 30 acts scheduled across three stages! And considering the students are the main producers of the event, it's pretty incredible who they've booked to perform: Pepper, The Expendables, Nahko, Through the Roots, The Movement, Daniel Marley, Seedless, New Kingston, Krooked Treez, Leilani Wolfgramm and many more. In addition to the music, artists such as Al Scholl, Jimmy Ovadia, David Marple, Christian Alexander Soto, the Randolph Sisters, Kirk O'Hara and many others have signed on to exhibit their talents live – painting inspirational pieces onstage for visual entertainment!

Even though the rockfest is thrown for the pleasure of its attendees, it's important to note that the event's primary goal is to educate the public. Autism is a costly and crippling disease needing to be recognized on a communal level; it is imperative that American citizens take social responsibility for autistic individuals so that they can have a hope for a better tomorrow – a chance to flourish and prosper within their own right. The “Yes I Can” Meltdown mantra is to integrate a celebration of “art and music in a socially inclusive setting”, therefore please be respectful of the cause.

The festival is set to span 12 hours – 11am to 11pm – including onsite vendors for food and drink. Since the day is long and the heat may be high, the Meltdown staff is urging festival-goers to bring along plenty of sunscreen; also allowed are strollers, wagons, water bottles and medium-sized backpacks. Make sure you don't leave anything in the car, since the festival is advertising no re-entry!
