It was a beautiful night to remember at the Lodge Room in Highland Park, California, where Middle Aged Dad Jam Band — comprised of actors and superstar comedians — came together to show their support to the wildfires in southern California. It was an evening of music, comedy and community, with 100% of the ticket sales going directly to the Pasadena Community Foundation’s Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles Wildfire Response Fund.
Middle Aged Dad Jam Band started out with comedians Ken Marino and David Wain.
They joined some old friends and started jamming out to classic songs, eventually selling out shows across the country. It was a true honor attending and getting to witness such an incredible event, where everyone in the audience was there to give back. It was very special to me, because I recently had the opportunity to help AmeriCares pack bags with essential supplies for the fire victims who lost their homes. Being able to help out anyway you can really puts a smile on so many faces and truly means the world to everyone affected!
In this intimate standing-room-only setting, where disco balls were hung high under a crowd ready to show their support, the Middle Aged Dad Jam Band members made their way to the stage singing “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow.
The audience immediately joined in and sang word for word. One of the first guests to show their support onstage was actor and comedian Joe Lo Truglio and actress Malin Akerman, with Akerman singing the Cheers theme song “Where Everybody Knows Your Name”.
Next actor Randall Park popped up onstage and performed “It Had To Be You” by Frank Sinatra… while also giving the audience a little taste of some rap poetry.
The Middle Aged Dad Jam Band returned to the stage to sing “How Sweet It Is” by James Taylor before Rachel Bloom stepped up to sing the “Time Warp”.
Right as the band started playing “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)”, Thomas Lennon (famously of Reno 911), ran onstage to sing along. The crowd went wild clapping and cheering.
Next, a long-term SNL cast member, Will Forte, got up to show his support by singing “Touch Me” by The Doors. Other songs performed by the Middle Aged Dad Jam Band were “Centerfold” by The J. Geils Band, “Ain’t No Crime” and “Vienna” by Billie Joel.
Other special guests were Lisa Gilroy, Moshe Kasher, Nick Thune, “Weird Al” Yankovic — the latter performing “867-5309/Jenny”.
Last to grace the stage was actor and comedian, Taran Killam who sadly lost his home during the wildfires.
He told the crowd how truly he was moved by the night, with everyone coming together to help raise over $41,000 tonight to help the victims of the devastating LA wildfires. If you’d like to show your support to the community, please still make a donation today.
