Rapper, rocker, book writer — these all describe artist Mod Sun. This modern mogul got a jumpstart in the rap game thanks to Machine Gun Kelly; I could be wrong, but, in my opinion, Mod Sun is absolutely killing it right now. His latest album, Internet Killed The Rockstar, feels like it came out 20 years ago although coming out last year. This is an album that feels both old-school and fresh and new. I was absolutely blown away with songs like “Pornstar”, “Annoying Karma” and the title track.
The opening song starts out with Mod Sun singing, “I hope you choke on every lie you said to me // I hope you move out of this city // Suddenly, I hope you get everything you deserve // Karma’s a B.T.H., I’ve heard.”
With Mod Sun playing all of his own instruments, this guy can do it all.
Is there anything this man can’t do? Mod Sun has just released the song “Down”, featuring Travis Barker, already to critical rock acclaim. What will Mod Sun have in store for us next? I don’t know, but if he keeps pumping this stuff out, he will be a legend in music, guaranteed.
I have complete faith in Mod Sun; I’ve never had any doubts. He’s friends with Machine Gun Kelly, so I hope to see them do another song together! The song “Stay Away” is great… it has a bit of everything: piano, guitar, drums and Machine Gun Kelly — what more could you ask for? They go together like peanut butter and jelly. So, go listen to Internet Killed The Rockstar because it’s fire emoji.
Mod Sun announced the Internet Killed The Rockstar Tour, featuring the band Girlfriends Months Ago. Mod Sun said he wanted to do an album full of songs that reflect his live shows; I think he definitely accomplished something like that with this album. I still listen to it regularly, it’s that good!
So, if you want party music, this album is for sure a go-to record. There’s definitely sunshine in the air with Mod Sun and I can’t wait to see what he does next. The anticipation is killing me! Keep on shining your light, Mod Sun.
