Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, four-piece reggae rock band Rockstead has been making moves and making people groove since 2013. The band is known for their ability to mix reggae, rock, hip hop and alternative flawlessly into their performance and sound. Through the last seven years, the band has managed to make quite a name for themselves in the mid-eastern U.S. With their hip sound and socially-conscious lyrics, Rockstead’s new single “Distractions” featuring James Begin (of Tropidelic) more than measures up to their past releases.
As you might imagine from the title “Distractions” is a song about the world we are currently living in today.
There are so many distractions that may or, in fact, are keeping us from achieving our highest potentials — both individually and collectively as humans. From the media to commercial consumerism to divisive propaganda, there are many things we are exposed to everyday that can lead to negative reactions in our day-to-day experience. We must take control of what we have power over and what we expose ourselves to.
Not to say we should ‘check out’, as it were, but to remain consciously aware of what we consume and what is going on around us in order to be our best selves, in order to contribute to the world in a positive manner. When all seems to be falling apart around you (as it may seem to us at times, especially given the world’s circumstances), we must remain hopeful, resilient and as self-disciplined as we possibly can be.
The song has a dark tone; it’s very raw: you can feel the frustration that the vocalists and band feels about the world as it stands. But, do not let that deter you… this is definitely a powerful track to dance and just jam out to. We can only imagine what it will be like to see this song performed live. This is the second track to be released off of Rockstead’s upcoming album You’re In Control and will be available for listening July 31st. The new album is due to be released September 18th, 2020.
