Look alive, San Diego! Bayfest is back for its fourth annual single-day music festival. Saturday, July 8th downtown San Diego’s Waterfront Park will host a variety of artistry. Attendees can anticipate high-energy performances accompanied by local food vendors as well as bartenders pouring an assortment of craft beers & cocktails.
The single-stage event guarantees no overlapping sets, meaning you won’t have to choose between your two favorite bands (and with the insane lineup that dropped today, you’ll be obsessively thanking co-founders Joe Rinaldi and Mike Beltran all day)!
Headlining the event is Bob Marley’s youngest son, Damian “JR Gong” Marley. Damian’s hit single “Welcome to Jamrock” was listed as one of the Top 100 Songs of the Decade by Rolling Stone, and at the 2006 Grammy Awards, he won Best Reggae Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance for Welcome to Jamrock. Damian is the only Jamaican reggae artist in history to win two Grammy Awards on the same night. He is also the only reggae artist to win in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category at the Grammy Awards. The New York Times called Welcome to Jamrock the “best reggae song of the decade.”
Directly supporting Damian is Orange County heavy hitter, Common Kings. Preceding sets include Jamaican triple threat Koffee, hip hop legend Prof, up-and-coming Long Beach native DENM and multi-instrumentalist Kahlil Nash.
The insanity of this lineup is enough to have music lovers scrambling for their wallets but the music doesn’t stop there. Ticket holders will experience the musical styling of Sleeping Giant Music’s DJ’s, Unite, Mr. Hek and Green T. during set changes, which just so happens also to be the ideal time to visit local artist vendors for the perfect souvenir to memorialize the stellar day you are guaranteed to have!
