In a not-so-shocking and somewhat offbeat news today, we have just learned that Bob Marley’s own estate is pursuing a trademark infringement lawsuit against Louisiana founded fast food chain Raising Cane, for the use of the term “One Love” for their marketing campaign which can be seen clearly on the restaurants own website banner, as well as being used on it’s menu and printed advertising materials.
Fifty-Six Hope Road Music, Ltd. which owns all the rights to the legendary and internationally known Bob Marley’s persona, filed the lawsuit against the chicken flinging establishment last week to protect Bob Marley’s name against brand dilution and false association. Hope Road is seeking that Raising Cane pay for it’s legal fees and damages to the Bob Marley name.
Since the songs release in 1977 on the album Exodus by Bob Marley and the Wailers, “One Love” has since been included on various “best of” compilations including the famous Legend album, (which so happens to be in everyone’s collection) that sold well over 13 million copies in the US alone.
